What does a Website Content Administrator do?
You will help us install new WordPress sites, keep them happy & healthy (backed-up, updated, live) and add content to those sites based on our designed web templates.
Areas of responsibilities include:
- New & existing websites on WordPress
- Web content management
- Writing & editing for the web (proofreading)

What does a Website Content Administrator do?
You will help us install new WordPress sites, keep them happy & healthy (backed-up, updated, live) and add content to those sites based on our designed web templates.

What do we expect from a Website Content Administrator?
Monthly
- Report on work done (can export from Teamwork tasks completed), attach to invoice
Weekly
- Content updates before task due dates[1]: charge per website page/post (URL) (see process below: includes wording and imagery updates)
- Based on brief (task) posted on Teamwork
- Website (indicated under client company name – see details of task creation on Teamwork)
- Setup page/post elements according to best practices, such as (not a comprehensive list)
- Page Parent / Post category (indicated with task tag), if applicable
- Slug (adapted from article heading)
- Author (listed in original article), if applicable (post only)
- Publication date (same as original article date in Word doc / other website when indicated), if applicable (post only)
- Featured/In-article Image (Google Drive) & its animation
- If article if from website URL, add image to Google Drive
- May need to source imagery from original author’s website / social media post, if not already available
- Contact form/side bar (indicated whether applicable in Teamwork task description)
- Add at the end of republished article: “Republished with permission from [AuthorCompanyName]. View original article at [URL]
- Based on brief (task) posted on Teamwork
- Cornerstone article/not, if applicable (post only)
- Always
- Add Ratings (star, heading, etc.) – standard, if applicable (post only)
- Remove comments & pings
- Tags (extract from article content), if applicable (post only)
- Add social media sharing buttons, if applicable (post only)
- Use applicable page template – will indicate name of template in Teamwork task
- Spellcheck all content with Grammarly.com before adding to website

- Plagiarism check (“ button)
- Set appropriate content goals
- Add basic SEO for article using Yoast SEO plug-in – get SEO scores green, get readability scores as green as possible. Check out updates to the Yoast SEO plug-in & its website for new feature releases and best practices to implement across all sites.
- Extract tags from article based on master Keyword Strategy list & article’s content
- Apply logical heading vs body tags and other content styles (emphasis, quote, bold, etc. based on Word text styles)
- Add alt text to all images (same as article heading and text in the image)
- Add internal links to similar articles appropriately (±2-5 per article)
- Add external links based on article’s hyperlinks & style as external hyperlinks
- Add Focus keyword
- Add preview snippet
- Compress image via website plug-in (e.g. WP Rocket)
- Add custom Facebook & Twitter share images & previews: title, description, image.
- Add article URL to consolidated Word doc in Google Drive for someone else to create social media posts
- Report
- Screenshot of Website articles “all posts” section to show article overview, SEO ratings, etc.
- Add reCAPTCHA to all contact forms, ensure there is a working email autoresponder on all contact forms.
- Apply all plug-ins’ functionality when creating new posts/pages on a website.
- Make a full website backup, apply updates to all websites & test each website after each update.
Ad Hoc
- WordPress site installation on cPanel (new website creation)
- Website migration to other website hosting company (e.g. Afrihost to Anno.com)
- Website backups before doing any updates
- Save the backups to specified Google Drive folders.
- NB: Always have at least 3 previous backups (full website snapshots or versions) available to be able to restore previous website versions if anything goes wrong.
- Website backend & plug-in updates (WordPress, theme, plug-ins, website safety features like reCAPTCHA) within 2 workings day of it becoming available, always after business hours
- Receive themes’ updates emails from e.g. Elegant Themes / check-out WordPress backend for websites & read the news.
- Notify Elevate Studios of updates in writing beforehand & afterwards: indicate if there were any issues & how you resolved it. Please escalate issues to us proactively.
- Test website features after any updates:
- Test website’s functionality after every update (e.g. contact form, image banner animations, etc.) Tests depend on
website’s functionality. - Send contact form tests only to own email address, not client’s / someone else at Elevate Studios
- Test website’s responsiveness after every update via Google’s PageSpeed Insights & MonsterInsights plug-in (check no/minimal negative impact on
previous PageSpeed)
- Test website’s functionality after every update (e.g. contact form, image banner animations, etc.) Tests depend on
- Training and continuous personal development to improve workflows, WordPress (how to
setup , backup & restore a site), Yoast SEO & general SEO knowledge, etc.
What skills does a Website Content Administrator need?
- Keen attention to detail:
See the forest and the trees. Think about the bigger picture when implementing things (e.g.: don’t need to be given all the details again for the third time), Make judgment calls and be able to substantiate it: show us your decisions make sense for the client’s brand, website, in context of the website, etc.) - Strong communication skills (verbal, written):
handle people with respect, be proactive in communication (keep everyone on the same page). English proficiency is super NB, any other language proficiency (African/European) is good (and could set you apart from other applicants) - Ability to work under tight deadlines:
complete tasks on time and do them well. Show us you can time and energy manage yourself well without forgetting that you’re working with people (not robots) - Does not need micromanagement = NB. Self-driven, independent worker:
internal motivation to check Teamwork for tasks, ask if unsure about anything, get things done without having to be asked for updates on tasks. Work with the team. - Be super digital savvy to learn new tech quickly and like to learn about it & do “digital” well.

Which minimum qualifications or experience do you need to qualify for the role?
- None needed. If your head, heart and hand is in the right place (you’re keen to learn, self-study and make a success of it, and you put feedback into action, going the extra mile to do EXCELLENT work), we’d love to work with you. Show us you want to and can do this.
- We think a keen learner can learn & implement the core knowledge within the first month, so we’re thinking of a 3-month contract (probation period) with the option of extending it into a longer-term contract.
- This role is part-time, so it’s ideal for someone who has a flexible schedule (not 9-5 work) and work remotely (not office-bound), like students, matriculants or work-from-home parents. This doesn’t have to be your career, but you’ll learn valuable skills and lessons (technical and soft business) to take with you whatever your career choice.
